To determine if hernioplasty according to the Lichtenstein presents a higher risk of chronic pain compared to the laparoscopic technique in postoperative inguinal hernia patients. Method: An analytical observational study of a prospective cohort was carried out, consisting of 70 patients who underwent inguinal hernioplasty divided into 35 using the technique Lichtenstein and 35 using the laparoscopic route, treated in general surgery at the Hospital Víctor Lazarte Echegaray and Hospital Alta Complejidad ““Virgen de la Puerta ” between 2019 and 2020. In them, chronic pain was identified within 1 years after surgery, evaluated using a visual analogue scale by face-to-face interview. Results: Female sex turned out to be an independent risk factor for chronic pain after adjusting for the intervening variables (RR: 4.105, 95%CI: 1.03-8.16), likewise, the technique Lichtenstein increased the risk of chronic pain by 3,943 times (95CI%: 1.02-11.75). Conclusions: Hernioplasty according to the Lichtenstein presents a higher risk of chronic pain compared to the laparoscopic technique in postoperative inguinal hernia patients.
