OBJECTIVES: To describe the characteristics of central venous catheter users of the hemodialysis service of the Jorge Reátegui Delgado Hospital, 2018-2019 METHODOLOGY: It is a descriptive, observational, retrospective and transversal study. We included 125 medical records of patients with a diagnosis of advanced CKD in hemodialysis due to a central venous catheter. RESULTS: Of the 125 patients, the average age of 59.67 years was found. 51.6% are male; the level of instruction most frequently is the secondary level, 39.7%. 65.6% of the cases are from an urban area. Diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension, alone or in combination, are present in 75.2% of all patients and in third place is polycystic kidney disease. The most used venous access was the jugular vein (60.8%) and in second place the femoral vein (31.2%). 45.6% of CVCs were permanent and 54.4% were temporary. The permanent CVCs presented infection with an incidence of 14%. Cultures were positive for: Staphylococcus Epidermidis (3/7) 42.9%; Staphilococo Hominis (2/7) 28.57%, Staphilococo aureus (14.29%); Enterobacteria cloacae (1/7) 12.5% and Morgarella Morgagni (1/7) 12.5%. CONCLUSION: It was found that the population of patients with CVC in HD is the highest percentage of men with an average age of 59 years, with comorbidity more frequent HTA followed by DM congruent with new studies conducted in the country. In addition it was found that the most used access is the jugular vein and the one that presented more complications such as infection were the permanent CVC. And likewise the most frequent etiological agent in the cultures was the S. Epidermidis.
