To determine predictors of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in university students of the Universidad Privada Antenor Orrego (UPAO) during 2020. Methods: A cross-sectional, observational, analytical and prospective research was conducted. Students enrolled and taking clinical courses during 2020 at UPAO in the schools of psychology and human medicine were included. A sample of 207 students was calculated. Statistical analysis was performed in STATA v15, using multivariate analysis with Poisson model. Results: The prevalence of GERD among university students was 17.87% (n=37). The mean age of participants with GERD was 23.2 ± 2.3 years and 43.24% (n=16) were female. Factors associated with GERD were eating street food reported as seldom/regular (RPa=2.86, 95%CI: 1.36 - 6.02, p=0.005) and as always/almost (RPa=4.46, 95%CI=1.51 - 13.23, p=0.007) and having obesity (RPa=2.08, 95%CI=1.12 - 3.85, p=0.02). Conclusions: Predictors of GERD development were eating street food and having obesity.
