Objective: To determine the association between geriatric nutritional status and the severity of hip fracture in patients from the traumatology service of the Hospital de la Amistad Perú Corea-Santa Rosa II-2, Piura. Materials and Methods: A retrospective analytical cross-sectional study design was used. The population included hospitalized elderly patients over 65 years old from the traumatology service between the years 2018 to 2023, diagnosed with hip fracture, who were treated at the mentioned hospital. The sample size was determined using the statistical program EPIDAT 4.2. Results: The results revealed a significant association between the severity of hip fracture and the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (P = 0.002), highlighting the importance of nutrition in the bone health of the elderly. Additionally, significant associations were observed between the severity of hip fracture and other variables, such as female sex (P = 0.023), and osteoporosis (P = 0.021). These findings highlight the multifactorial influence on hip fracture pathology. Conclusions: In conclusion, this study provides solid evidence of a significant association between the degree of the Geriatric Nutritional Index and the severity of hip fractures in older adults. Additionally, significant associations were found between the severity of hip fractures and variables such as sex and the presence of osteoporosis, emphasizing the multifactorial complexity of this pathology
