To determine whether age, sex, body mass index, anemia, arterial hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, previous stroke, chronic renal failure, mental disorder, waiting time, type of fracture, functional status, use of psychotropic drugs waiting time, type of fracture, functional status, use of psychotropic drugs and ASA grade are risk factors associated with nosocomial pneumonia in hip fracture patients at the Victor Lazarte Echegaray hospital during the period January 2013 - April 2019. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An observational, analytical, longitudinal, case-control study was conducted, involving 160 patients with hip fracture divided into 2 groups: a case group consisting of 32 patients with nosocomial pneumonia and a control group consisting of 128 patients without nosocomial pneumonia. Likewise, the corresponding bivariate and multivariate analysis was performed to obtain results. RESULTS: The bivariate analysis of the risk factors studied showed that, age (p<0.001), waiting time (p<0.001), anemia (p = 0.009), COPD (p = 0.030), mental disorder (p<0.001), functional status (p<0.001), use of psychotropic drugs (p<0.001) and the ASA grade (p<0.001) were statistically significant. With these data, the multivariate analysis was carried out where the following were maintained as specific risk factors: age (OR = 1.144; CI = 1.050 – 1.247; p = 0.002) and waiting time (OR = 1.442; CI = 1.266 – 1.644; p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Age and waiting time are risk factors associated with nosocomial pneumonia in patients with hip fracture
