To determine the association between polypharmacy and dyspepsia symptoms in older adult patients at Hospital II Carlos Humberto Vivanco Mauricio-Talara in the years 2021-2022. Methods: observational, cross-sectional, analytical study. A total of 153 adults aged 65 or over who responded to the questionnaire or whose companions provided information on the study variables were included. Data were collected using a data collection form that included sociodemographic characteristics, polypharmacy questionnaire, and Rome IV diagnostic criteria for functional dyspepsia. The statistical program SPSS v.24.0 was used. To identify the association, the Chi-square test was performed, considering significant a p value less than 0.05.. Result: A statistically significant association was found between polypharmacy and symptoms of dyspepsia in elderly patients (X2 = 43.686; p < 0.001). A prevalence of 62.09% of polypharmacy and 66.01% of functional dyspepsia was determined. In addition, regarding the pharmacological groups used, antihypertensives (41.83%), hypolipidemics (35.29%) and hypoglycemics (30.07%) were the most frequent. Arterial hypertension (41.18%) followed by diabetes mellitus (28.76%) and neurological diseases (17.65%) were the most frequent clinical conditions in older adults. Conclusion: Polypharmacy is significantly associated with symptoms of dyspepsia in elderly patients at Hospital II Carlos H. Vivanco Mauricio de Talara.
