incluyendo 108 niños/as entre 3 a 5 años de la I.E.I 1576 Jerusalén, La Esperanza.
Objective: To determine if there is an association between malocclusion and pacifier use in children aged 3 to 5 years. Method: The study was observational, cross-sectional, descriptive, and prospective, including 108 children aged 3 to 5 years from the I.E.I 1576 Jerusalem, La Esperanza. To measure pacifier use, a questionnaire with 4 questions validated by the judgment of 6 experts was administered to the parents; malocclusion was assessed through a dental examination observing overjet and overbite. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to assess normality, and Chi-square test was used for correlational analysis. Results: A significant association between malocclusion and pacifier use was demonstrated (p=0.000; p<0.05). Deep overbite prevailed in 4-year-old children (21.3%), whereas normal overbite was observed in 21.3% of 3-year-olds and 14.8% of 5-year-olds. Additionally, increased overjet was found in 3.7% of 3-year-olds, 10.2% of 4-year-olds, and decreased overjet in 6.5% of 5-year-olds. The prevalence of increased overjet was 18.5% and deep overbite was 34.3%. It was found that in children who used pacifiers for more than one year, the prevalence of deep overbite was 33.3% and increased overjet was 26.1%. Conclusion: There is an association between malocclusion and pacifier use in children aged 3 to 5 years
