The aim of this study was to determine if the use of Omeprazole is a risk factor for Urinary Lithiasis in patients treated in the outpatient clinic of the Urology service of the Belen Hospital in Trujillo. METHODS: An analytical, observational, retrospective, case-control study was carried out; where the data of 190 patients treated in the outpatient clinic of the Urology service of the Belen Hospital in Trujillo during the period 2017-2023, which were divided into 2 groups, based on the presence or absence of urinary stones and also taking into account the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The independent variable was the use of Omeprazole and the dependent variable was Urinary Lithiasis. Statistical analysis was performed using the non-parametric Pearson Chi Square test. Likewise, the bivariate and multivariate analysis was performed using multiple logistic regression, considering a p value <0.05 as statistical significance. The odds ratio (OR) and its corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) were analyzed. RESULTS: Of the 190 patients treated in the outpatient clinic of the Urology service of the Belen Hospital in Trujillo during the period of 2017-2023, 95 cases and 95 controls were selected. The frequency of omeprazole consumption was determined in patients with and without Urinary Lithiasis, which was 34.7% and 21.1% respectively The Chi Square test revealed a significant difference: p<0.035, 95% CI (1.04 - 3.82), and an OR of 2.00. In the analysis of the intervening variables, it was observed that only hypothyroidism can be considered as a risk factor in view of its significance (OR=4.87, 95% CI 1.02-23.16 and p value= 0.03), while that the others variables such as age, gender, diabetes mellitus, anemia and azotemia, proved not to be significant (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The use of Omeprazole is a risk factor for Urinary Lithiasis in patients treated at the Belen Hospital in Trujillo.
