Objective: To determine if conditions such as, pregestational obesity, family history of malformations of the digestive tract, history of acute or chronic disease, no intake of folic acid and the origin of height of the pregnant woman are risk factors for the development of abnormalities congenital of the digestive tract in neonates hospitalized in the Neonatology Service of the Belén Hospital of Trujillo. Material and Methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective, case-control study was carried out. We reviewed and collected information from the clinical histories of neonates and their mothers with congenital malformations of the digestive tract hospitalized in the Neonatology Service of the Belen Hospital of Trujillo during the period 2013 - 2017 and who met the inclusion criteria, randomly selecting 168 Stories clinics Results: The study consisted of 84 cases and 84 controls. In the bivariate analysis, it was possible to identify that: Pregnant women with a history of acute or chronic disease versus pregnant women with no history presented 2,425 times higher risk in neonates with congenital malformations of the digestive tract compared with pregnant women in the control neonates (34.5% vs 17.9 %, respectively) (p = 0.014; OR: 2,425 [1,184-4,968]), as well as the non-intake of folic acid during the first trimester increased the risk of developing congenital malformations of the digestive tract with respect to controls (47.6% vs 28.6%, respectively) (p = 0.011; OR: 2.27 [1.20-4.30]), and the frequency of pregnant women with a provenance of height was 13.5 times higher in neonates with MC from the tube compared with control neonates (33.3% vs. 3.6% respectively) (p = 0.000; OR: 13.5 [3.913-46.578]). In the multivariate analysis, a statistically significant association was found between the variables of: antecedent of acute or chronic disease with OR: 2.793 95% CI (1.301-5.995) p = 0.008 and the origin of height with OR: 14.743 CI 95% (4.214) -51,582) a p = 0.000 among the pregnant women of the neonatal cases versus the controls. Conclusions: The history of acute or chronic disease, the non-intake of folic acid and the origin of height of the pregnant woman are risk factors associated with congenital malformations of the digestive tract in neonates of the Belen Hospital of Trujillo
