Determining advanced maternal age is a risk factor for cesarean delivery in pregnant women whose labor was attended in the Obstetrics service of the Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital in the period 2015 - 2018. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The present study is observational, analytical with a case-control design. The research population about 312 patients were distributed into two groups: those who had a cesarean delivery and those who had a vaginal delivery, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The elements of the sample were selected according to the hospital data with the values obtained from each medical record, which were attached in the data collection protocol annex. For the association of the factors and the variables, the non-parametric Pearson Chi-Square test was used. This test was considered significant if the Odds Ratio value is greater than 1 (OR>1.0). RESULTS: According to the statistical analysis, 66.3% were identified with advanced age that culminated in cesarean section, while 24.5% with advanced age in the control group had vaginal delivery, finding a significant association for advanced maternal age and cesarean delivery (OR (95% CI): 6.07 (3.63 - 10.16)), In addition, it was found that gestational age (p=0.005) and maternal obesity (p=0.001) associated with advanced maternal age (p=0.000) are a risk factor (OR 95%) for terminating pregnancy by cesarean section. CONCLUSIONS: Advanced maternal age is a risk factor for cesarean delivery in pregnant women whose delivery was attended in the Obstetrics Service during 2015-2018.
