Demonstrate that pregestational diabetes is a risk factor for intrauterine growth restriction at the Regional Docent Hospital in Trujillo 2015- 2019. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective analytical observational study of cases and controls of 120 puerperal women treated at the Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital from 2015 to 2019 who met the selection criteria was analyzed, they were divided into 2 groups: with a diagnosis of intrauterine growth restriction during the gestation and without it, data collection was performed. Subsequently, the Chi square statistical test was used, in addition the prevalence ratio was calculated. RESULTS: The study patients with pregestational diabetes were 4 (7%) in the puerperal women who had IUGR during pregnancy and 3 (5%) in the puerperal women who did not have IUGR during pregnancy. The result obtained indicates that the ratio between occurrence versus non-occurrence of IUGR is 1.357 times higher in pregnant women with a diagnosis of pregestational diabetes mellitus compared to pregnant women without this history, it is concluded that this association is not statistically significant; that is, the presence of pregestational diabetes mellitus is not a risk factor for intrauterine growth restriction (CI95%:0.290 - 6.341). CONCLUSION: Pregestational diabetes is not a risk factor for intrauterine growth restriction.
