The objective of this descriptive, cross-sectional investigation was to determine the level of communication of the nurse (a) with the patient in critical units of the Belén de Trujillo Hospital, 2019, the sample consisted of 25 nurses; 11 of the Intensive Care Unit, 6 of the Intermediate Care Unit and 8 of the Trauma Shock Unit, to whom a checklist was applied, whose author is Barja M, Gonzalez V and Lujan V; modified by the authors of the investigation, on the communication of the nurse, being found that 56% of nurses had a medium level of verbal communication, 24% low and 20% high, likewise 56% of nurses had high level of nonverbal communication, 28% low, and 16% average.
Objective: To determine the factors associated with hospital length of stay in patients with bronchiolitis admitted to Belen Hospital of Trujillo (HBT) in the period January-2014 to June-2019. Material and methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective, case-control study was conducted. The study population consisted of 168 patients hospitalized for bronchiolitis (56 cases and 112 controls) according to inclusion and exclusion criteria distributed in two groups: those who presented prolonged hospital stay and those who did not. The information was collected from the clinical records of hospitalized patients of the Department of Pediatrics of HBT during the study period. Pearson's Chi-square test was used for statistical significance with p <0.05 and the Odds ratio was calculated to demonstrate a significant association between the variables. Results: In the statistical analysis it was identified that the severity of the disease, evaluated with the Bierman and Pierson scale modified by Tal (B&P), described as “moderate” presented an important statistical association [OR 6.11 (95% CI: 3.0212.36), p <0.001]. On the other hand, age [OR 1.41 (95% CI: 0.27-7.31), p = 0.573],prematurity [OR 1 (95% CI: 0.32-3.08), p 1], malnutrition [OR 1.21 (95% CI: 0.285.26), p = 0.798] and oxygen saturation [OR 3.33 (95% CI: 1.10-10, 04), p = 0.087] do not present tatistical ignificance. Conclusions: The severity of the disease, classified as “moderate” and evaluated with the B&P scale, is a factor associated with prolonged hospital stay. Age, history of prematurity, malnutrition and oxygen saturation do not show significant statistical association with hospital length of stay.
