This scientific article analyzes the effects of antiretroviral therapy (ART) on the growth of children infected with HIV. For this, a documentary review on updated HIV data was carried out together with the bibliography review of medical journals and international health organizations. The main results are that ART in children is necessary to prevent the replication of HIV and thus improve their quality of life, thus preventing HIV from reaching the AIDS phase. It was also found that the relationship of the effects of ART on children's growth was negative, although this was generally considered. Since through the discussion of various studies and authors it was determined that adverse effects on growth occur in few cases, or that the effects were simply not significant or that the proper application of ART programs together with different combinations was simply necessary of antiretrovirals since this was the main determinant that avoided adverse effects on the growth of children. Therefore, it could be concluded that ART allows the control of the advance of HIV in the body, programmed ART can control the advance of HIV in the body without the need to have adverse effects on the size of the child and that the mother with HIV should carry out the necessary controls to avoid HIV infection from mother to child.
