To determine if asthma is a risk factor associated with acute appendicitis in children seen at the HRDT in the period 2017-2019. Material and Methods: An analytical, observational, case-control, retrospective study was carried out. The study population consisted of 280 pediatric patients according to established inclusion and exclusion criteria divided into two groups: with or without acute appendicitis; Odds ratio and chi square test were calculated. Results: The average age and white blood cell count were significantly higher in the group with acute appendicitis than in the group without acute appendicitis (p <0.05). The frequency of bronchial asthma in children with acute appendicitis was 31%. The frequency of bronchial asthma in children without acute appendicitis was 9%. Bronchial asthma is a risk factor for acute appendicitis in children with an odds ratio of 4.47 which was significant (<0.05). In the multivariate analysis, the variables bronchial asthma, age and leukocytosis were identified as risk factors for acute appendicitis in pediatric patients (p <0.05). Conclusions: Asthma is a risk factor associated with acute appendicitis in children seen at the HRDT in the period 2017-2019.
