This study aimed to determine the seroprevalence and associated risk factors in cats positive for feline leukemia, to provide further information to assist in the prevention and control of feline leukemia. For this purpose, 100 domestic cats from five veterinary medical centers in Trujillo City, La Libertad region, were evaluated. The study included feline patients of any breed, sex, and age who presented with a clinical picture associated with the viral disease; patients diagnosed with and/or treated for feline viral leukemia and patients immunocompromised with feline viral immunodeficiency virus were excluded. The results showed a prevalence of 72.0 % (CI: 62.70-80.10 %). 84.6 % (22/26, 67.5-94.6 %) of cats aged 6-12 months, 62.2 % (23/37, 46.1-76.4 %) of cats aged 1 to 2 years and 73.0 % (27/37, 57.3-85.2 %) of cats older than 2 years were FeLV positive. 69.7 % (46/66, CI: 57.9-79.8 %) of the tested male felines were positive for feline viral leukemia, and 76.5 % (26/34, 60.5-88.2 %) of the tested females were positive for feline viral leukemia. 75.3 % (64/85, 65.4-83.5 %) of unneutered cats were positive for FeLV, and 53.3 % (8/15, 29.4-76.1 %) of neutered cats were positive. The prevalence of FeLV in adopted and home-born cats was 74.4 % (81/82, CI: 64.2-82.9 %) and 61.1 % (11/18, CI: 38.3-80.6 %), respectively. Cats with vaccination showed a prevalence of 50.0 % (11/22, CI: 30.1-69.8 %), and cats without vaccination had a prevalence of 78.2 % (61/78, CI: 68.1-86.2 %); the statistical difference was evident in this factor (p<0.05). The prevalence of FeLV was 73.8 % (62/84, CI: 63.7-82.3 %) among domestic cats living with others and among those not living with other cats was 62.5 % (10/16, CI: 38.3- 82.6 %). Domestic cats with outdoor access showed a prevalence of 76.9 % (70/91, CI: 67.5-84.7 %), and those without outdoor access had a prevalence of 22.2 % (2/9, CI: 4.9-54.4 %). FeLV positivity was associated with vaccination and outdoor access (p<0.05). We conclude that there was a 72.0 % prevalence of feline viral leukemia in veterinary medical centers in the district of Trujillo
