Determine if gout is a risk factor for Stroke Material and method: For this, an analytical, retrospective, case-control study will be carried out. 376 patients (94 cases and 282 controls) will be included based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, which will be grouped into 2 groups: with stroke and without stroke. The procedure will consist of the selection of clinical histories of hospitalized patients of the Virgen de la Puerta Hospital, with the subsequent filling of the data collection instrument and organization of the information. Results: An Odds Ratio (OR) of association between gout and cerebrovascular disease of 1.55 (95% CI 0.64 - 3.74) was obtained, however, the association is not statistically significant. Furthermore, it was found that gout was present in 8.5% of patients with stroke and in 5.6% of patients without stroke. Conclusions: There is insufficient evidence to affirm that gout is not a risk factor for cerebrovascular disease.
