To determine the relationship between Gingival Disease and the Body Mass Index in children from 3 to 5 years of age served at the La Noria de Trujillo 2017 Specialties Hospital. Material and method: The study was prospective, transversal, descriptive and observational. He had a sample of non-probabilistic collection for convenience of 107 preschoolers from 3 to 5 years, where they were randomly selected and met the inclusion criteria. The data collection was done after an inter-peer type calibration by an expert using the Kappa concordance index. As part of the procedure, all patients were evaluated in a single session, obtaining all the necessary data. Results: Within the results we can see that the relationship between gingival disease and body mass index in children aged 3 to 5 years was high in grade 1 (47.6%), decreasing in proportion for subsequent grades. In relation to the degree of gingival disease in children aged 3 to 5 years we can see that grade 2 gingival disease (60.75%) was higher than grade 1 (39.25%). On the other hand, in terms of BMI in children aged 3 to 5 years we can see that the BMI 1 (65.42%) was higher than the others (18.69% and 15.89% respectively). Finally we can see that the gingival disease in relation to the BMI according to gender, we observed that the female gender had a higher rate (48.75%) compared to the male gender (41.25%). Conclusions: There is a significant relationship between gingival disease and body mass index.
