Introduction: Premature rupture of membranes (RPM), is the loss of continuity of the amniotic sac before the onset of labor with the consequent outflow of amniotic fluid. Its global incidence is approximately 8% and is associated with the risk of maternal and fetal infection, which increases proportionally to the time between membrane rupture and delivery. Also iron deficiency and anemia, which generates hypoxia may induce maternal and fetal stress causing premature membrane rupture. Objetive: Determine whether gestational anemia is a risk factor for the development of premature rupture of membranes at Regional Hospital of Trujillo. Methods: a study of analytical, observational, retrospective, case-control type was carried out. The study population consisted of 270 pregnant women according to inclusion and exclusion criteria established divided into two groups: with and without premature rupture of membranes, the association was assessed with chi square statistic Results: Statistical analysis on the variable under study as a risk factor was: gestational anemia (OR: 1.8; p < 0.05), early gestational age in weeks significantly increases the risk of premature rupture of membranes (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Gestational anemia is a risk factor for the development of premature rupture of membranes at Regional Hospital of Trujillo.
