Objetive: Determine if bacterial vaginosis in pregnancy is a risk factor associated with episiorrhaphy dehiscence in puerperal women. Materials and methods : A retrospective case-control study was conducted. The study population consisted of 136 puerperal women who completed vaginal gestation with episiotomy treated at the La Noria basic specialties hospital between 2013-2017, who were divided into two groups of patients with episiorrhaphy dehiscence (cases: n = 34 ) and without dehiscence of episiorrhaphy (controls: n = 102). Data collection cards were used to complete the sample sizes in both study groups for the analysis of the variables. The odds ratio and the chi square test were calculated. Results: It was found that the frequency of bacterial vaginosis in pregnant women who did dehiscence of episiorrhaphy during the puerperium was 53%. Bacterial vaginosis is a risk factor for episiorrhaphy dehiscence (OR = 2.57, 95% CI: [1.42- 5.18], p = 0.025). With regard to gestational age (p = 0.025), it was observed that preterm had a significantly higher frequency in the group of pregnant women with dehiscence with respect to the group of pregnant women without dehiscence. The mean maternal age found in the case group was 25.5 ± 4.1 and in the controls group 27.2 ± 6.5. (p = 0.02); degree of parity (p = 0.45); provenance (p = 0.3), not appreciating significant difference. Conclusion: Bacterial vaginosis in pregnancy is a risk factor associated with episiorrhaphy dehiscence in puerperal women, preterm gestational age was observed at a significantly higher frequency in patients with dehiscenitis of epsiorraphy.
