Objective: The objective of this study was to determine if gestation in adolescence and advanced maternal age are risk factors for developing twin pregnancy. Material and methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective, casecontrol study was carried out in pregnant women of the Belén Hospital of Trujillo, Peru. The study population consisted of 224 pregnant women in the period January 2014- December 2016 who fulfilled the inclusion criteria, which were divided into 2 groups: with twin gestation (n = 112) or without it (n = 112). The SIP 2000 was used to extract the data of the type of pregnancy, age, parity, origin. The odds ratio and the chi square test were calculated. Results: From a total of 224 pregnant women, the average maternal age was 26.8 in patients with twin pregnancy and 27.4 in patients without twin pregnancy, no significant differences were seen in relation to the intervening variables such as degree of parity whose average was 1.7 in patients with twin pregnancy and 1.4 in patients without twin pregnancy (p = 0.32). The distribution of twin gestations according to age group was: adolescent 21%; from 20 to 35 years 52% and years to 27%. The distribution without twin gestations according to age group was: adolescent 9%; from 20 to 35years 77% and years to 14%. Likewise, the findings observed in the multivariate analysis identify the condition of adolescent pregnant woman (ORa 2.4 IC95% [1.6-3.9]) and pregnant woman (ORa 2.8 IC 95% [1.8- 4.2]) as risk factors associated with the development of twin pregnancy; In contrast, Multiparity (ORa 1.5 [0.6-1.9] p = 0.28) and rural provenance (ORa 1.3 [0.71.7] p = 0.38) are not recognized as a risk factor. Conclusions: The adolescent pregnant woman (under 20 years of age)a ndt hep regnantw oman ( over ore qualt o35 years old) are risk factors for developing twin pregnancy
