Objective: To determine whether obesity is a factor associated with left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with arterial hypertension at Hospital Víctor Lazarte Echegaray. Material and Methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective, case-control study was conducted. The study population consisted of 164 patients with arterial hypertension; Which were divided into 2 groups: with or without left ventricular hypertrophy; The odds ratio and chi-square test were calculated. Results: Patients with left ventricular hypertrophy had a significantly longer time of hypertensive disease than patients without left ventricular hypertrophy. The frequency of obesity in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy was 23%. The frequency of obesity in patients with hypertension without left ventricular hypertrophy was 11%. Obesity is a factor associated with left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with hypertension with an odds ratio of 2.44 which was significant (p <0.05). Conclusions: Obesity is a factor associated with left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with arterial hypertension at Hospital Víctor Lazarte Echegaray.
