Introduction: Insomnia is the most frequent complaint of pathologies associated with sleep disorder in adults. The World Health Organization reports that insomnia occurs in approximately 40% of the population at some time in their lives; since it has a high prevalence in the general population which increases with age and risk factors, especially chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus type 2. Objective: To determine if type 2 diabetes mellitus is a factor associated with insomnia. Material and methods: In analytical study, cross-sectional, in the Hospital I Jerusalem of the hope MINSA Trujillo-Peru, 185 patients were studied to determine the prevalence of total insomnia and between the groups with and without diabetes mellitus. Results: 185 patients were studied with 106 (58.3%tuvieron insomnia). The prevalence of insomnia was higher in the Group of patients with diabetes (70. 78% vs 42.68%) Diabetes mellitus was factor associated with insomnia with an OR = 2. 254 (1,728-6.120), 12.778 Chisquare p = 0.00.
