The epidemic of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus / Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV / AIDS) continues to be one of the main public health problems worldwide despite the advances and good results that access to antiretroviral treatment has generated. In this context, the purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between sociocultural, economic and institutional factors with the abandonment of comprehensive care services for HIV positive people served at the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo during the years 2012-2014, only Regional Reference Center for Comprehensive Care, which includes anti-retroviral treatment of HIV positive people. The sample population was 122 people who knew their HIV diagnosis and met the inclusion criteria. It is an analytical, cross-sectional and associative (relational) study. The information was obtained through personalized interviews and the application of a previously validated questionnaire, using the statistical program SPSS version 21 for its processing and corresponding analysis. To determine the association of the variables identified for each of the sociocultural, economic and institutional factors, chi² tests were applied with a confidence level (CI) of 95%, considering a value p <0.05 significant, and p<0.01at a highly significant level of association. From the analysis of the results obtained, it was found that for sociocultural factors, the ““marital status““ presented a very significant association (p <0.01) with the abandonment of comprehensive care services for HIV positive people, and from the frequency analysis it was observed that the ““single““ category represents 76.7%, less than half (46.5%) are heterosexual and more than 40% have higher education, with 53.5% of them having consumed some substance, mainly alcohol. Among the economic factors, ““work““ showed a high level of significance (p <0.01) and the category with the highest frequency related to abandonment is ““not having a job““ with 53.5%. Among the institutional factors that presented high significant association with abandonment were ““information provided““ and ““diagnosis time““ with p <0.01. It is concluded after applying the multivariate analysis with logistic regression that of the sociocultural, economic and institutional factors associated with the abandonment of comprehensive care services for HIV-positive people, constitute risk factors: being single, not having a job, receiving confusing information and have a diagnosis time of the disease of 2 to 3 years, with all categories presenting an OR greater than 3, corresponding to a high level of significance, p <0.001, this group reflecting 3 times more the possibility of abandonment. On the other hand, the factors that were significantly protective of non-abandonment (continuity) were: married marital status, having independent work, receiving clear information and time of diagnosis and treatment of 1 to 2 years. It is proposed to implement intervention strategies aimed at improving access to comprehensive care and antiretroviral treatment (HAART) in a more timely manner to mitigate non-progression to AIDS.
