Objective: To determine if work satisfaction influences the presence of anxiety and depression in internal and residents of medicine in three large hospitals in the city of Trujillo during the period from September to October 2017. Material and methods: We conducted an observational, analytical crosssectional study that evaluated 254 people among internal and residents of medicine, assessed the presence of anxiety and depression with the HADS test and job satisfaction with the SL-SPC scale. Results: The prevalence of anxiety and depression found in the study sample was 21.26% and 14.57% respectively. The bivariate analysis found that age (p = 0.037) and job dissatisfaction (p = 0.001) were significantly associated to the presence of anxiety and in relation to depression, age (p = 0.001), single marital status (p = 0.034), having legal medical procedures (p = 0.001) and work dissatisfaction (p = 0.001) were significantly associated with the presence of depression. The multivariate analysis showed that the variables independently associated with anxiety were the female sex, having children and work dissatisfaction; and for depression, these were age and the presence of work dissatisfaction. Conclusions: Work satisfaction influences the presence of anxiety and depression in internal and residents of medicine; it is necessary to improve the working environment, as well as implement strategies to reduce these alterations in mental health.
