Objective: To demonstrate that anemia and arterial hypertension chronic are risk factors for premature placental abruption. Material and Methods: An observational, retrospective study of cases and controls was carried out. The study group consisted of 156 pregnant women from the Belén de Trujillo-Peru hospital ; which were divided into 2 groups: with (n=52) or without abruptio placentae(n=104) ; The odds ratio and chi square test were calculated, and the multivariate logistic regression was applied. Results: Of a total of 154 pregnant women, the average maternal age was 26.5 weeks in patients with PPD, and 27.7 weeks in patients without PPD; the average gestational age in patients with PPD was 37.7 weeks and 37.9 weeks in patients without PPD; and the average parity was 1.9 in patients with PPD and 1.6 in patients without PPD. The frequency of maternal anemia in the group of patients with PPD was 34% while the frequency of anemia in patients without PPD was 14% (p = 0.04). It was also observed that the frequency of arterial hypertension in the group of patients with PPD was 21% while the frequency of arterial hypertension in patients without PPD was 6% (p = 0.02). In multivariate analysis with the variables of multiparity, anemia and arterial hypertension, anemia was recognized with wald of 5.3, OR 2.6 and (IC 95% [1.5; 3.1]) (p = 0.44) and hypertension with wald of 5.9, OR 3.2 (CI: 95% [1.9-4.7]) (p = 0.034) as associated risk factors for placental abruption, and Multiparity is not recognized as a risk factor because it obtained wald of 3.4, OR 1.84, IC 95 % [0.86 - 3.24] , (p= 0,061) Conclusions: Anemia and hypertension are associated risk factors for premature placental abruption
