Objective: To determine if twin pregnancy is an associated factor for premature rupture of membranes in pregnant women treated at the Belén Trujillo Hospital in the period 2014-2016. Material and methods: This is an observational, analytical study, case and control type. Retrospective. Whose study population will be constituted by all the pregnant women attended in the Department of Maternity and Obstetric Center of the Bethlehem Hospital of Trujillo; that meet inclusion and exclusion criterion, The total sample was 830 pregnant women from a total registered population of 11 118 of whom 83 cases and 747 controls were taken randomly. The chi-squared test was applied; the sample was divided into 2 groups: pregnant women who presented premature rupture of membranes and pregnant women without premature rupture of membranes. Results: During the study period (2014-2016) 11,118 pregnant women were registered whose births were attended in the Service of Gíneco-Obstetrics of the Belén Hospital of Trujillo, which includes all those deliveries attended vaginally and cesarean section; of the population the number of cases is 9.6% (n = 1078) corresponded to patients with premature rupture of membranes (rpm) and the number of controls 90.3% (n = 10040) corresponding to patients without premature rupture of membranes. It should also be mentioned that there were 3.4% (n = 374) of patients with twin pregnancy and 96.6% (n = 10744) corresponding to single gestation. Conclusions: The proportion of twin pregnancies in pregnant women diagnosed with premature rupture of membranes was significantly higher than in those without premature rupture of membranes. (19% vs 3%) with a value of (p = 000 **).
