OBJECTIVE: To determine if there is an association between age >=75 years, female gender, heart failure, amiodarone use, chronic kidney disease, active cancer, arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus and poor anticoagulation quality with warfarin (measured through Time en Therapeutic Range –TTR) in patients with the diagnosis of non valvular atrial fibrillation in outpatient care during 2016 at Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A case-control study was conducted; the selection process was carried out under the inclusion and exclusion criteria, having as a total population of 550 patients registered with their respective clinical histories, of which, for reasons such as depuration, it was only considered 68 controls and 178 cases. Of the cases, 68 histories were randomly selected to maintain and adequate proportion with controls. RESULTS: Of the study population, 47.06% were women and 52.94% were men. The average age in years was 79.7 + - 8.25. Age greater than or equal to 75 years, female sex, heart failure, arterial hypertension, use of amiodarone and active cancer; they had statistical significance. Age greater than or equal to 75 years OR = 6.48 {3.03-13.84} and p = 0.000; female sex OR = 5.05 (2.43-10.47) and p = 0.000 and heart failure OR = 10.14 {4.47-22.97}; p = 0.000 had the greatest significance among the total of factors. The factors chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia did not show statistical significance (p = 0.389, 0.158, 0.41, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: There is an association between age> = 75 years, female sex, heart failure, high blood pressure, the use of amiodarone and active cancer with poor anticoagulation with warfarin. There is no such relationship with chronic renal failure, diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia.
