Objective: To determine if advanced maternal age is a risk factor for multiple pregnancy in pregnant women treated at the Regional Docente Hospital of Trujillo Material and methods: An observational, analytical, retrospective study of population cases and controls was carried out. The selection process was carried out under the inclusion and exclusion criteria in pregnant women with multiple pregnancy of the hospital mentioned between the period 2000 to 2017, registering a total of 312 pregnant women. Of which 78 multiple pregnancies constituted the group of cases and 234 single pregnancies constituted the group of controls. Results: The presence of the advanced maternal age was in le 16.7% of women with multiple pregnancies and 8.7% without multiple pregnancy (p = 0.006). The 73.1% of multiple pregnancies culminated in Caesarea, whereas 34% of pregnancies that were only culminated in Caesarea. Having one maternal age over 35 years represents an OR = 2 92 with 95% from 1.32 to 6.45. (p = 0.006). the rate of multiple pregnancies has increased in the past 5 years corresponding a 20.9 births multiple x 1000 deliveries in 2013 to 26.4 x 1000 births in 2016. In 2017 there is a slight decrease with a rate of 25.7 x 1000 births. Conclusions: The frequency of advanced maternal age in pregnant women with multiple pregnancy was higher than those who did not have this pregnancy. The type of completion of multiple pregnancies was mostly by cesarean section. The odds ratio of advanced maternal age as a risk factor for multiple pregnancy was 2.92. The trend in twin pregnancies in the study period has increased in the last five years. Advanced maternal age is a risk factor for multiple pregnancy. Advanced maternal age is a risk factor for multiple pregnancy
