Pulmonary tuberculosis relapse is defined as those patients with recurrence after having a full and adequate treatment and who are diagnosed with tuberculosis disease bacteriologically. We sought to identify the predisposing factors for relapse of pulmonary tuberculosis in adults, using a descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional study in which 60 patients Tuberculosis Control Programme Regional Hospital ““JAMO““ II-2 of Tumbes were taken between January 2008 and January 2014 with a diagnosis of relapse that met inclusion criteria and 60 patients without relapse. A bivariate analysis, calculation of the odds ratio (OR) with univariate logistic regression analysis to predict the development of relapses for variable was performed. Results: It was found to be associated with late relapse sputum negative conversion malnutrition OR 6.57 OR 14 as bacillary load OR: 4.03 TB infection intradomicilliary OR: 24.75, urban-marginal source OR: 2.7 harmful habits as alcoholism OR: 5.26 smoking an OR: 3.6. Relapse is associated with the presence of diabetes mellitus, chronic renal failure, silicosis; However, in our work we found other factors association; and suggest that finding these factors in tuberculosis patients could indicate the possibility of relapse and raise the need to use larger dose of antituberculosis drugs.
