Introduction: Hipertensive disease of pregnancy occurs in 6 to 8 % of all pregnances, of which approximately 70% had a diagnosis of Preeclampsia Hypertensive disease causes prematurity, low birth weight and increased perinatal deaths. The present research was aimed at determining the relationship between Preeclampsia and low birth weight Materials and methods: the study of cases and controls were developed in the Hospital Belen of Trujillo. The Perinatal Information System (PIS) provided relevant data from two years ( 2011 – 2012), selected by systematic probability sampling Results: been selected 35 cases and 140 controls, matched by sex of the newborn. It was found a positive association between preeclampsia and low birth weight with an OR of 3.72 (IC OR 1.06 – 13.00)
