Objective: To determine the factors associated with respiratory symptoms and abnormal spirometry in workers of a mining company in Cajamarca, attended at the San Lorenzo Occupational Clinic during the period from December 2015 to April 2016. Methods: An observational, cross-sectional analytic study that examined occupational histories of 200 workers, distributing the population in 178 healthy workers, 8 with obstructive pattern and 5 with restrictive pattern. Results: The mean age in normal workers was 33.86 ± 10.72, those with obstructive pattern were 47.75 ± 10.05 and those with restrictive pattern were 54.60 ± 5.46 years; males were present in 162 (91.01%), 7 (87.50%) and 5 (100%) respectively. The prevalence of spirometric alterations in Yanacocha - Cajamarca workers was 6.81%. The factors associated with spirometric alterations in Yanacocha - Cajamarca workers were age, working time, previous exposure and use of protection. The spirometric alterations that were significant were FVC 1 , FVC 2 , FEV 12 and FEF 2575 . Conclusions: This study shows that the factors associated with spirometric alterations in mining workers were age, working time, previous exposure and use of protection.
