Objetive: To establish the relationship between anemia, expressed by hemoglobin <10 g/dl and mortality in the Intensive Care Unit patient. Methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective cohort study design was carried out. The study population consisted of 168 patients hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo (HRDT) during the period 2010-2015, that fulfilled selection criteria. Results: In the group in which the exposure factor was present, the mortality rate was 78.6%. When performing the corresponding statistical analysis, we found an RR of 2.44 (95% CI 1.56 – 3.83). Pearson’s Chi squared test showed a value p value < 0.01. In the group with the exposure factor, the mortality was higher in the female patients. Conclusions: There is an inversely proportional relationship between hemoglobin and mortality in the Intensive Care Unit patient treated at HRDT.
