Objective: To determine if neonatal macrosomía is an associated factor for obesity in pre-school children attended in the Belén Hospital of Trujillo in the 2014-2016 period. Material and methods: This is an analytical study, case and control type. Retrospective. The study population will be constituted by the preschools attended in the outpatient clinic of the Belen de Trujillo Hospital during the 2014-2016 period; that meet inclusion and exclusion criteria. The total sample was 237 of which 79 cases and 158 controls were randomized. The sample was divided into 2 groups: pre-school children 2-5 with childhood obesity with and without a history of neonatal macrosomía; and those eutrophic preschools with the same characteristics. Results: During the study period, 10 118 pre-schoolers attended, including both children with obesity and healthy children; of which 1348 fulfilled the inclusion criteria in which they refer that their birth occurred in the Bethlehem Hospital of Trujillo. Conclusions: The history of neonatal macrosomía is a risk factor for childhood obesity with an Odds ratio of 2.46.
