Objetive: To evaluate if blood group O constitutes a risk factor for the development of pre-eclampsia in pregnant women in the La Libertad Region during the period from January 2014 to December 2016. Material and method: An analytical, retrospective, observational, cross- sectional, case-control study was conducted. The study population consisted of 5194 pregnant women from Belen Hospitals and Trujillo Peru Regional Hospital, between 2014-2016, according to established inclusion and exclusion criteria, distributed in two groups: preeclampsia (n = 1,743) and without Preeclampsia (n = 3451). Results: The frequency of blood group O in gestations with and without Preeclampsia was 81.53% and 80.64% respectively, not considered as a risk factor. In addition, we performed a stratification with the covariable BMI in gestations with and without preeclampsia, 81.34% and 75.57% respectively in obese O patients, showing a direct relationship between obesity and preeclampsia. Conclusions: Blood group O is not a risk factor associated with preeclampsia among pregnant women.
