A flood occurs when a storm generates lots of runoff and it exceeds the capacity of rivers. The result of this phenomenon is the overflow of the banks in a particular course of the river and therefore flooding of surrounding lands known as “floodplains”. Floodplains are generally those lands subject to recurrent flooding more frequently and located in areas adjacent to rivers and streams““ (Organization of American States OEA1993). Make a plan for flood risk is a task that takes a long time research. So we need technological tools to locate and understand the activities of flooding before they happen; in this way we can have a better view of what is happening to know: where to locate dikes and height, where enlargements, rectifications runway and how much; whether it is worthwhile or not to relocate populations and where; and locate areas where hydraulic phenomena that affect the behavior of the flood are presented. Thus, as the use of HEC-RAS integrated with the extension GeoRAS hydraulic model, to extract the topography of the area of interest by a TIN (triangulated irregular network); simulate flooding with different flow rates and roughness conditions set by the user and create a new TIN with heights and areas covered by water. With the information generated by the model can work preventive and corrective leveraging technology level of hydraulic modeling, it decided to perform a simulation in a segment of 5.9 km from Pachachaca River, in the district of Calamarca Julcan. Since the Rio Pachachaca not have hydro meteorological information will transfer this information Cajamarquino River Basin, which has similar physiographic features and has hydrometeorological information.Hydrological data used in this study were obtained from the Weberbahuer station, which records data information from the years 1973-1998 (25 years). An important design data is verification on the spot, watching the locals of the area, the signals of maximum flood, which has been recorded in the month of April 1998 the maximum flood, valuable information to determine height and compare it with the flow rate obtained by rational method. The method of channeling Altunin determined width 22.33, Simons and Henderson gave 6.26 meters, the method Pettis 27.59 meters and the method of Dodge gave a base width of 22.49 meters, the height of wall gave as results 2.83 Meters.
