OBJECTIVE: Determine if there is an association between dyslipidemia and disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An observational, cross-sectional analytical study was carried out at the Hospital de Especialidades Básica de la Noria during the period January 2014 - August 2017, the clinical histories of 62 patients diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis were reviewed and the activity of the disease was evaluated with the DAS-28 scale classified as moderate or severe mild, later the statistical analysis was performed with the Chi square test for association of factors and the contingency coefficient to measure this association. RESULTS: 62 patients diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, 51 were female (82.25%). The average age was 53 years; 33 had moderate disease activity, 21 had high activity and 8 had low activity. A significant association was found between the presence of dyslipidemia and disease activity, with a P = 0.002 value. To identify the degree of association between dyslipidemia and disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis, the contingency coefficient was used, which showed a relationship of 40.4%. In addition, an association was found between a total hypertriglyceridemia value greater than 150 mg / dL and disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis with a P value = 0.006. However, when evaluating the serum cholesterol value and disease activity in RA, no significant association was found, with P = 0.103. CONCLUSIONS: There is an association between dyslipidemia and disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis, in those patients with high disease activity they had more dyslipidemia compared to the moderate and low activity groups.
