Objective: The objetive in this study was Determine if the consumption of energy drinks is associated with the short duration of sleep in students of human medicine at the private University Antenor Orrego. Material and Methods: analytical study of cross-section, which evaluated to 803 University School of medicine in april-june of 2018. The students completed questionnaires such as the DASS-21 test to assess depression, anxiety and stress as well as the insomnia Severity Index test, to assess the presence of insomnia. Results: Between the predictor variables of short-term sleep: presence of emotional conflict with an OR = 3.01; consumption of coffee before sleeping with OR 8.41; NAP more than two hours in the afternoon with an 8.83 OR; with 6.25 OR depression; with a 6.81 OR anxiety; and with an 8.04 OR stress, all with a p = 0.001. Among the variables of exposure the average hours of sleep duration to drink energy was 2.35 ±1. 29 and those who didn't dream of short duration was 3.02 ± 1.52. The daytime consumption of energy drinks ORc 2.05 with p = 0.009 and the consumption of energy drinks on the night was ORc = 2 40 with p = 0.009. The multivariate analysis, reported that more than two hours in the afternoon nap, had an ORa 3,890 with p = 0.001; energizing drink on the day an ORa 2.03 with p = 0, 028 and evening ORa = 2.399 with p = 0.001; stress got an ORa 3,949 with p = 0.003, in addition the anxiety had an ORa 2,287 with p = 0.022. Conclusions: The consumption of coffee before sleeping, emotional conflict, more than two hours in the afternoon nap, depression, anxiety and stress were associated with the short duration of sleep. In bivariate analysis established that the duration of sleep, consumption of drinks during the day and night were associated with the short duration of sleep. The multivariate analysis showed that the NAP more than two hours in the afternoons, consumption of energy in the day and night, stress and anxiety are risk factors.
