Objective: Determine if the diet with high glycemic load is a factor associated with severe inflammatory acne. Methods: An analytical, cross-sectional, observational study was carried out in the Hospital of basic specialties ““La Noria““. The sample size established for the study was 106 patients. Results: Of the total number of patients, 2 groups were established: group N ° 1 was composed of patients with severe inflammatory acne with a total of 43 patients (40.6%) of whom 42 (97.7%) consumed a diet with a high glycemic load and 1 patient (2.3%) consumed a diet with moderate glycemic load. Group No. 2 consisted of patients with mild and moderate inflammatory acne with a total of 63 (59.4%) patients, of whom 58 (92.1%) consumed a diet with high glycemic load and 5 (7.9%) consumed a diet with moderate and low glycemic load. With respect to the statistical analysis regarding the prevalence of the disease, a prevalence ratio with a value of 2.52 was found, with a 95% confidence interval between the values of 0.41 and 15.31. In the same way, a prevalence ratio of 1.06 with a confidence interval of 95% between the values of 0.97 and 1.16 was calculated for the prevalence of exposure. Finally, a p-value of 0.2196 was calculated using the chi-square test. Conclusions: There are not enough reasons to affirm that the diet with high glycemic load is a factor associated with severe inflammatory acne.
