Objective: Determine the association between hyperlipidemia and volume of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Design: Analytical, observational, cross-sectional. Field of Study: Hospital Víctor Lazarte Echegaray period January-March 2016 Population: 120 male patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia who met specific selection criteria. 59 showed hyperlipidemia and 61 not. Main follow-up: chi square (for qualitative variables) was applied and a correlation matrix was performed to measure the degree of association between hyperlipidemia and benign prostatic hyperplasia. Results: The age group with hyperlipidemia had an average of 79.27 years and in the group without hyperlipidemia 67.3 years, with a minimum age of 60 and 55 years, respectively, and a maximum age of 93 and 95 years, respectively. They had significant association with the degree of benign prostatic hyperplasia assessed by ultrasound cholesterol Χ2 = 31.34 ( 95 % CI ), P = .0001 ; triglycerides Χ2 = 14.24 ( 95 % CI ), P = , 0026 ; diabetes mellitus Χ2 = 30.03 ( 95 % CI ), P = .000 ; and hypertension Χ2 = 18.61 ( 95 % CI ), P = , 0003 . direct positive correlation was found with increasing prostate volume PSA ( prostate specific antigen) r = , 417 ; cholesterol ( > 200 mg / dl ) r = , 363 ; triglycerides ( > 150mg / dl ) r = , 239 ; r = diabetes mellitus r = ,234 and hypertension r= ,227. Conclusions: There is a positive direct correlation between the volume of benign prostatic hyperplasia and PSA, cholesterol, triglycerides, diabetes mellitus and hypertension.
