To establish the clinical stage at the moment of prostate cancer diagnosis and determine if treatment was appropriate for each Clinical Stadium in patients treated at Jose Cayetano Heredia EsSalud Hospital - Piura from January 2013 to December 2014 with a diagnosis of Prostate Cancer. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The present study is an observational, retrospective, descriptive, transversal. A list of patients with the diagnose of Prostate Cancer from January 2013 to December 2014 was obtained. The sample size was obtained by formula of proportions obtained a total of 138 patients which was given an allowance for losses, becoming 160 patients at the end, we proceeded to the review of medical records by completing a form of data collection, which was validated by an expert. Then 10 patients were excluded for not meeting the inclusion criteria. We worked with a total of 150 patients. Of all clinical histories, we found that 137 patients had a final diagnosis of Prostate Cancer while 8 cases were diagnosed as Benign Prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), 1 case as prostatitis and 4cases had no definitive diagnostic by Pathology Report. The Province of Piura has the highest number of patients with the diagnose of Prostate Cancer by place of birth and is the place where the majority of patients live with a 32.67% and 62.66% respectively. The youngest age of diagnose was 52 years old and the oldest was 98; with a larger number of patients between 70 and 79 years and a mean age of 71.91 years. Control of Benign Prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common reason for consulting (34.67%). 11 For the diagnosis of Prostate Cancer was requested prostate-specific antigen assay and Prostate biopsy with 68.67% and 23.33% respectively. In 24.70% of cases the diagnosis was incidental. The Clinical Stadium was not recorded in the medical record in 75.33% of cases and the few who had registered the 6.67% corresponded to Stage IV and 5.33% in Stage III. The initial treatment after diagnosis confirmed the main Simple Hormonal Therapy was only 76.67%. After starting treatment, which was basically hormonal, only in 49.33% of cases the decrease of PSA was achieved. Subsequently another hormone or hormone combination was used (35.33% and 25.33% respectively). In 20 patients (13.33%) Simple hormonal therapy was initiated without Pathology Report. As additional data four patients (2.67%) are receiving treatment with cyproterone without Prostate Cancer diagnosis by pathology report; this treatment is based only in elevated PSA values between 10 and 30 ng / ml. CONCLUSIONS: Based on data found in this research, clearly demonstrates that the diagnosis of Prostate Cancer was performed in advanced stages and that the treatment was not made based on a guideline or protocol of Prostate Cancer, as shows the different treatment regimens used by health professionals.
