OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to compare the aesthetic perception of different types of smile among dental surgeons, stomatology students and common people. Trujillo- 2017. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The prospective, cross-sectional, comparative and observational study included a total of 150 subjects including 50 dental surgeons, 50 stomatology students and 50 common people. To evaluate the aesthetic perception the Visual Analogue Scale (EVA) was used from 0 to 10. For the statistical analysis of the comparison of the aesthetics of different types of smile among dental surgeons, students of stomatology and common people was carried out applying the tests Kruskal Wallis and U of Mann- Whitney. Comparisons between images within each group were performed using Wilcoxon's Friedman and Signo-Rango tests. A significance level of 5% was considered. RESULTS: The results obtained showed a significant difference in the aesthetic perception of different types of smile among dental surgeons, stomatology students and common people. (P <0.001). CONCLUSION: The smile with a deviation from the midline of 3 millimeters to the right presents greater acceptance compared to the ideal smile. The smile that presented less acceptance was the one that presented / displayed a central diastema of 1milímetro.
