Objective: This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of plaque control in students between 10 and 12 years old with different orthodontic treatment need. Materials and Methods: The study sample consisted of 104 schoolchildren from 10 to 12 years old Emilio Carlos Uceda Meza National Education Institute. Children were divided into two groups, of which only one group worked with the developer of plaque. Plaque control was evaluated in seven days sequentially for each grade in each group being used O'Leary index. For statistical analysis, statistical Mann-Whitney U test was used with a significance level of 5%. Result: In the group in need of orthodontic treatment, the mean values of O'leary were 19.00% and 12.42% for the students who did not receive developing agent and the agent if received respectively, appreciating statistically significant differences (p <0.001). Conclusion: The use of a Developing agent was effective in reducing plaque in students Between 10 and 12 years old with different orthodontic treatment need.
