Factores asociados a hipoglucemia en pacientes con diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Hospital Belén de Trujillo

Abstract

Objetivo: Determinar si la edad avanzada, el menor grado de instrucción, el tiempo de enfermedad, la insuficiencia renal y el tipo de medicación son factores asociados a hipoglucemia en pacientes con diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Hospital Belén de Trujillo. Material y Métodos: Se llevó a cabo un estudio de tipo analítico, observacional, retrospectivo, de casos y controles. La población de estudio estuvo constituida por 126 pacientes con diabetes mellitus tipo 2 según criterios de inclusión y exclusión establecidos distribuidos en dos grupos: con y sin hipoglucemia.

Resultados: El analisis estadistico sobre las variables en estudio como factores asociados fue: edad avanzada (OR: 3.4; p<0.05), menor grado de instrucción (OR: 3.3; p<0.05), la insuficiencia renal (OR: 1.78; p<0.05), tratamiento con insulina o sulfonilureas (OR: 2.84; p<0.05), el promedio del tiempo de enfermedad en años fue significativamente mayor en el grupo de pacientes con hipoglucemia (p<0.05).

Conclusiones: La edad avanzada, el menor grado de instrucción, el tiempo de enfermedad, la insuficiencia renal y el tipo de medicación son factores asociados a hipoglucemia en pacientes con diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Hospital Belén de Trujillo.

Objetive: Determine whether the elderly, the less educated, sick time, kidney failure and type of medication are factors associated with hypoglycemia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated at the Bethlehem Hospital of Trujillo. Methods: A study of analytical, observational, retrospective, case-control type was carried out. The study population consisted of 126 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus according to inclusion and exclusion criteria established divided into two groups : with and without hypoglycemia.

Results: The statistical analysis of the variables studied as associated factors were : age ( OR: 3.4 ; p < 0.05 ), lower level of education (OR : 3.3; p < 0.05) , renal failure (OR : 1.78 ; p < 0.05) , treatment with insulin or sulfonylureas (OR : 2.84 ; p < 0.05) , the average sick time in years was significantly higher in the group of patients with hypoglycemia ( p < 0.05). Conclusions: The elderly, the less educated, sick time, kidney failure and type of medication are factors associated with hypoglycemia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated at the Bethlehem Hospital of Trujillo.
