To evaluate whether transumbilical technique give more security than laparoscopic one related to surgical site infection in patients with no complicated acute appendicitis at Victor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital IV in a period of January 2010 to December 2014. Material and Methods: We made an analytic study, observational, retrospective, cohorts. The population were integrated by 152 patients with acute appendicits divided into two groups: transumbilical versus laparoscopic technique. Results: The frequency of surgical site infection with transumbilical and laparoscopic technique were 8% y 5% (p>0.05). The average of hospitalary estance in transumbilical versus laparoscopic technique were 28.5 and 34.4 hours respectively. The average of surgical time in transumbilical versus laparoscopic technique were 42.6 and 54.8 minutes respectively. Conclusions: No significative differences were related to surgical site infection and hospitalary permanence between both techniques. Transumbilical technique is asociated with minor average of surgical time comparated to laparoscopic technique.
