Objective: To determine whether preterm birth is a risk factor for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder in patients treated at the Regional Hospital of Trujillo. Material and Methods: An analytical study, observational, retrospective, case-control type was carried out. The study population consisted of 220 children aged 5 to 15 years; who they were divided into 2 groups: those with attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity and without. Results: The frequency of prematurity in patients with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder was 49%. The frequency of prematurity in patients without Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder was 16%. Prematurity is a risk factor for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder with an odds ratio of 5.15 which resulted significant (p <0.05). The average gestational age was significantly lower in patients with ADHD compared to patients without ADHD (p <0.05). Conclusions: Prematurity is a risk factor for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder in patients treated at the Regional Hospital of Trujillo.
