OBJECTIVE. To identify the main predictive factors for recurrence following gastrectomy for advanced gastric adenocarcinoma resectable, attended at the Abdominal Surgery Service of the Regional Institute of Neoplastic Diseases, during the period2008–2015. MATERIAL AND METHODS. The present observational, cross-sectional, retrospective analysis of cases and controls analyzed information recorded in the medical records of a total of 61 patients with anatomicopathological diagnosis of resectable gastric adenocarcinoma who were treated at the Regional Institute of Neoplastic Diseases of the North ““Luis Pinillos Ganoza ““of Trujillo, during the period fromJanuary2008toDecember2015. RESULTS. A total of 61 clinical histories were evaluated, which were grouped in cases (n = 14) and controls (n = 47). The mean age of the total series was 63.30 ± 11.65 years (range: 40-89 years), being for cases of 65.21 ± 10.74 years and controls 62.72 ± 11.95 (p = 0.599). Of the total of 61 patients, recurrence of disease was observed in 14 (22.9%) patients, with an average recurrence time of 24.0275 months ± 15.95992 months (range: 2.60-64.40 months). Distal recurrence was determined in 07 patients, the next type of recurrence was peritoneal recurrence in 04 patients; finally the type of locoregional recurrence was only present in 04 cases. CONCLUSIONS. There were no significant differences between clinicopathological and surgical risk factors evaluated and recurrence after surgery for resectable advanced gastric carcinoma. Survival obtained in patients with recurrence was statistically significant.
