To determine whether preeclampsia is a risk factor for low birth weight in nulliparous patients in the obstetrics service in the jerusalem district hospital of hope in the period january 2015 and december 2016 Material And methods: A retrospective case-control study was carried out on 111 newborns born to nulliparous mothers attended at the Jerusalem District Hospital of Hope in the period January 2015 and December 2016, divided into two groups according to selection criteria, those with low birth weight And those without low birth weight. The Chi square test was used for statistical analysis and a statistically significant association was considered at p <0.05. The Odss Ratio was the statistician used in the study. Results: The frequency of newborns with low birth weight; Children of mothers who, if they presented preeclampsia is of 88%; And that 62% of newborns without low birth weight are the children of mothers who presented with preeclampsia, obtaining an odds ratio of 3.47 (95% CI: 1.28 - 9.38), evidencing a statistically significant association (p˂0.05). Conclusions: Preeclampsia in nulliparous patients is a risk factor for low birth weight, since a statistically significant association was found between both variables in the present study.
