Objective: To determine the relationship between serum C-reactive protein levels and the degree of severity of preeclampsia in patients treated at Hospital Belén de Trujillo. Material and methods: Retrospective, observational case-control study in 80 pregnant women with preeclampsia. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value were calculated. The chi square test was applied and the odds ratio for C-reactive protein was determined. Results: The sensitivity and specificity of C-reactive protein to severity of preeclampsia was 95% and 78%, respectively. The positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and predictive accuracy of C-reactive protein with respect to severity of preeclampsia was 81%; 94% and 86%, respectively. C-reactive protein is associated with severity of preeclampsia with an odds ratio of 65.44 which was significant (p <0.05). Mean Creactive protein was significantly higher in the group of patients with severe preeclampsia compared to the mild preeclampsia group. Conclusions: Serum C-reactive protein levels are associated with the degree of severity of preeclampsia in patients treated at Hospital Belén de Trujillo.
