To determine if young maternal, nulliparity and the history of presenting acute pyelonephritis are risk factors for acute pyelonephritis in pregnant women of the Obstetrics Service of the Belen Hospital of Trujillo during the period January 2011 to December 2014. Methods: A retrospective, analytical study of cases and controls was carried out using data from the review of clinical histories of hospitalized pregnant women diagnosed with acute pyelonephritis at the Obstetrics Service of Belen Hospital of Trujillo in the period January 2011 to December 2014. Results: The sample consisted of 240 hospitalized pregnant women, of which 60 corresponded to the cases: pregnant women diagnosed with acute pyelonephritis and 180 corresponded to controls: pregnant women with a diagnosis other than acute pyelonephritis. Nulliparity does not present a significant difference in cases and controls (P> 0.05). As for maternal young age, there is no significant difference in cases and controls (P> 0.05). There is a significant significant difference, pregnant women with a history of acute pyelonephritis is 3.4 times more likely to present it with respect to the group with no history. (P <0.05). Conclusions: The risk factor that presented a significant association with acute pyelonephritis in pregnant women was the history of presenting acute pyelonephritis. Young maternal age and nulliparity were not risk factors for the presentation of acute pyelonephritis in pregnant women.
