Objective: To demonstrate that family dysfunction is a factor associated with alcohol consumption in students of the Private University Antenor Orrego during the period January - February 2017. Material and Methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective case-control study was conducted. The study population consisted of 216 college students who were divided into 2 groups: exposed or not exposed to alcohol consumption; The chi square test and the odds ratio calculation were applied. Results: There were no significant differences in relation to the variables age, gender and origin among students of one or another study group (p <0.05). The frequency of family dysfunction in university students exposed to alcohol consumption was 35%. The frequency of family dysfunction in college students not exposed to alcohol consumption was 19%. Family dysfunction is a factor associated with alcohol consumption in students with an odds ratio of 2.2, which was significant (p <0.05). Conclusions: Family dysfunction is a factor associated with alcohol consumption in students of the Private University Antenor Orrego during the period January - February 2017.
